Mr. A. Duggins and Miss D Latham.
A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the Parish Church, Harlaston, on Monday, May 28, the contracting parties being Mr. Alfred Duggins, eldest surviving son of Mr. and Mrs. John Duggins of Haunton, and Miss Daisy Latham, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Latham, of Harlaston. The service was choral, and the rector, the Rev. Dr. Thorman, officiated.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white satin radiant, trimmed with pearls, and wore a veil and orange blossom; she carried a bouquet of lilies, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids were Miss Phyllis and Kathleen Latham, sisters of the bride, and Miss Ena Griffiths (a friend) of Birmingham. Their dresses were of white crepe de chene, trimmed with swansdown, and veils and roses, and they wore gold pendants, the gift of the bridegroom, and baskets of flowers.
Mr. Harry Blackwell, of Sheffield, goalkeeper of Aberdeen F.C., was best man. The bridegroom, who was on active service for the whole of the Great War, and won several distinctions, including the D.C.M., was until lately a member of Aberdeen F.C.
Mr. Eltingham, of Birmingham, presided at the organ, and the music was of a specially pleasing character, and included "The Wedding March." The hymns selected for the congregational singing were "The Voice that breathed o'er Eden," and "How welcome was the call."
The wedding breakfast took place at the Pavillion, at the bride's home, and was attended by a large number of relations and friends. Subsequently, amid felicitations of all, the happy couple left for Llanfairfechan, where the honeymoon is being spent. The wedding presents, which were numerous, were of a valuable and useful character.
